Mission
Help Emerging Leaders promote Academic Excellence in urban ZIP codes and
underserved communities “…for the betterment of the quality of life."

Brief History
Jason Mims began an initiative, the MIMS Ministry, in January 2002 to
"Motivate Individual Minority Students to prepare for and apply to America's
top national universities."  The School District of Hillsborough County
(Tampa, FL) allowed him to fellowship with 159 black male freshmen taking
honors English I at 18 of the district's public high schools between January
and April 2002.

The fellowships sparked a passion for providing community-based Academic
Excellence support to entering high school minority students who are
capable of reading good books--students with the best opportunity of
populating rigorous academic classes throughout high school and in the best
position to develop into competitive applicants to America's Best Colleges.

In April 2011, The MIMS Institute Fellows, Inc. incorporated as a non-profit
organization in the State of Florida to advance a decade of service focused
on building the community's capacity to encourage urban high school
students with strong reading skills to prepare for and apply to America's top
national universities.
