The MIMS Institute LLC is an organization founded to promote academic excellence in key urban Zip Codes.  We started at the turn of the century after our son received an acceptance letter from New York University in late 2000.  He stumbled upon this exceptional opportunity on his own.  

Since that time, though, The MIMS Institute LLC has served as a local resource in Tampa Bay, celebrating black and Hispanic students who dare dream of preparing for and applying to America's Top National Universities.  

The MIMS Institute LLC has a sense of urgency for ensuring minority students who enter high school in the fall of 2011 with strong reading skills have community-based guides in place to help them successfully navigate a complex, and oftentimes challenging, public education system.

The School District of Hillsborough County, in Tampa, Florida offers rigorous academic programs for students who leave Grade 8 with Norm Reference Test Reading Scores at or above the 90th-percentile.  Many would-be program participants have no clue about these opportunities.  They may also be unaware that top national universities are waiting for them to make use of these opportunities so that they can send them acceptance letters. Significant financial aid awards are available for them to participate in these exceptional postsecondary opportunities.

The purpose of The MIMS Institute LLC is to be a witness for:

• Distributing the US News List of America’s Top 50 National Universities to minority students
• Maintaining a routine presence from the black community at School Board meetings
• Hosting fellowships for students and parents
• Fishing for potential black applicants to America’s top national universities
• Encouraging black students with strong reading skills to graduate with multiple (6 or more) college-level, Advanced Placement classes
• Gathering achievement data and reshapes it to reflect participation rates of students in targeted key urban Zip Codes
